Open Water Scuba Diver Certification

Your First Step To Becoming A Certified Diver

This is the first life long certification allowing you to dive without a PADI professional.  This class involves an academic portion, a pool portion and finally 4 open water ocean dives.  The academic portion must be completed first and we offer two different ways to take this course:

Class Description

Traditional Classroom (3 Days)

This class takes three days to complete, the first day is in the classroom where you will Meet at the dive shop at 9:00am to begin your academic portion.  The Dive Shop is conveniently located in the Fishing Village inside the Ocean Reef Club.  The shop is located along the canal next to Port O'Call.  Our address is: 39 Fishing Village, Key Largo.

This consists of watching videos, going over knowledge reviews and taking the final exam with your instructor there to guide you through the whole process.  The classroom typically last from 9:00am - 4:00pm.  The second and third day you will complete skills in the pool each morning (9:00am - 11:30am) and head out to the reef for two dives each afternoon (12:30pm-4:00pm).  After everything is completed you will receive your very own PADI Open Water Diver certification.

Due to the nature of this sport it is always a good idea to keep an extra day open in case of weather or complications with the academic portion or skills portion.

PADI e-Learning (2 Days)

This is a very popular option for people who do not want to spend their vacation inside a classroom.  PADI E-learning allows you to complete the entire academic portion of this class at home on your own time before you come to Ocean Reef.  We will still meet at The Dive Shop at 9:00am to fill out paperwork and get suited up but then we go strait to the pool to take your first breaths under water.  That afternoon we head out on the boat to complete your first two open water ocean dives.  The next day is pool in the morning and two more ocean dives in the afternoon.  After completion you will receive your very own PADI Open Water Diver certification.
